CCI Small Rifle Bench Rest Primers #BR4 Box of 1000
Clear Product Overview
CCI BR4 Primers (Small Rifle Bench Rest) are match-grade primers engineered specifically for extreme precision, uniform flame delivery, and minimal shot-to-shot velocity variation. Designed for competitive benchrest target shooters, PRS competitors, and precision handloaders, these #BR4 non-corrosive, non-mercuric primers are produced by experienced technicians using specialized priming mix chemical dispensing for ultimate batch consistency. By combining precision-drawn metal cups with rigid dimensional tolerances, CCI BR-4 primers help reloaders shrink group sizes and achieve single-digit velocity standard deviations (SD).

Real-World Use Information
When fine-tuning match ammunition for target competition or long-range shooting, CCI BR4 Primers deliver the ultra-consistent ignition required to eliminate vertical stringing. Their precise cup geometry seats square and flush in small rifle primer pockets using precision bench-mounted tools, hand priming units, or progressive loading setups. Furthermore, the clean-burning match chemical mix leaves minimal combustion residue in flash holes, making primer pocket cleaning straightforward between reloads.
Compatibility & Requirements
-
Cartridge Compatibility: Fits all standard small rifle primer pocket cases (.223 Rem, 6mm ARC, 6.5 Grendel, small pocket 6.5 Creedmoor, .204 Ruger).
-
Equipment Compatibility: Seats cleanly using standard hand priming tools, bench tools, and progressive press priming assemblies (Dillon, Hornady, Lee, RCBS).
-
Safety Requirement: Always wear protective eyewear during handling, store primers in a cool, dry place away from heat sources, and never force a primer into an obstructed pocket.
Pros & Limitations
Pros:
-
Match-Grade Consistency: Specially trained operators hand-dispense priming compound for minimal shot-to-shot deviation.
-
Tight Cup Tolerances: Provides uniform seating depth and anvil positioning for predictable ignition timing.
-
Low Standard Deviation (SD): Helps shooters achieve flat trajectories and small extreme spreads at extended ranges.
-
Non-Corrosive Formula: Protects match barrels, chambers, and flash holes from chemical pitting.
Limitations:
-
Standard Flame Profile: Designed for standard small rifle powder charges; for heavy magnum charges or dense ball powders in maximum loads, consider CCI #450 small rifle magnum primers.
-
Higher Price Point: Premium match production process carries a higher cost compared to standard CCI #400 primers.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: What is the difference between CCI #400 and CCI #BR4 primers?
A: While both are standard-flame small rifle primers, the BR4 (Bench Rest) primers are manufactured with stricter quality controls, tighter cup tolerances, and custom-dispensed priming mix to deliver maximum uniformity for competitive shooters.
Q: Can I use CCI BR4 primers in small primer pocket 6.5 Creedmoor brass?
A: Yes, CCI #BR4 primers are an exceptional choice for precision match loading in 6.5 Creedmoor brass that utilizes small rifle primer pockets.
Q: Do CCI BR4 primers require changing my existing load data?
A: CCI BR4 primers share a similar energy profile to standard CCI #400 primers, but because any component swap can change chamber pressure, it is recommended to back off your load slightly and verify velocity stability.

Randy From Texas –
These are excellent for their consistency and uniformity. I first purchased them when I needed SR primers for a 223 and these were all that were available. I now use them for 222 and 221 FB as well with excellent results. I’ve never had a single misfire and the groups always seem to be a bit smaller than standard SR primers. The most significant difference with any caliber was…wait for it…the 351 Winchester SLR. I’ll wait for you to get up. OK; anyone familiar with the old Winchester SLR series knows that, due to a number of difficult to control variables, accuracy can be an issue. I was in the midst of loading a batch one day and said “Hey, what the heck.” The results on target were rather astounding as groups that had only been fair shrunk well over 50% in size and I well remember one 3 shot group that was a classic clover leaf. The only variant in that load was the BR4 primer. Now it’s the only thing I use for my old Winchesters. Will you have the same results? Can’t say for sure but I will definitely buy more when they are available again.
