CCI Large Rifle Magnum Primers #250 Box of 1000
Clear Product Overview
CCI 250 Primers (Large Rifle Magnum) are engineered to deliver a hot, sustained flame path required for dependable ignition in large-capacity rifle cases and dense, slow-burning spherical or stick powders. As a cornerstone of CCI’s performance reloading line, these No. 250 non-corrosive, non-mercuric primers feature heavy-duty cups designed to withstand maximum magnum operating pressures without pierced anvils or cup cratering. Whether you are hunting big game in sub-zero alpine conditions or pushing long-range targets, CCI #250 primers ensure rapid flame propagation and minimal velocity variation across every shot.

Real-World Use Information
When crafting heavy hunting loads or extreme long-range ammunition utilizing slow-burning propellants (such as Retumbo, H1000, or IMR 7828), CCI 250 Primers eliminate the risk of delayed ignition and vertical stringing. Their precise cup geometry seats smoothly into standard large rifle primer pockets using hand-held priming tools, bench systems, or progressive reloading equipment. Furthermore, the clean-burning initiator compound reduces carbon residue in flash holes and chamber throats, helping shooters maintain clean bores and stable muzzle velocities.
Compatibility & Requirements
-
Cartridge Compatibility: Fits all standard large rifle primer pocket magnum cases (.300 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, .338 Lapua Mag, .300 PRC, 28 Nosler).
-
Equipment Compatibility: Seats cleanly using standard hand priming tools, bench tools, and progressive press priming assemblies (Dillon, Hornady, Lee, RCBS).
-
Safety Requirement: Always wear protective eyewear during assembly, store primers in a cool, dry place away from heat sources, and never force a primer into an obstructed pocket.
Pros & Limitations
Pros:
-
Intense Thermal Flash: Generates a robust, long-duration flame tailored for large powder charges and slow-burning ball powders.
-
Tough Cup Construction: Designed to safely contain peak magnum pressures without cup deformation or pierced primers.
-
Cold-Weather Reliability: Formulated to perform consistently in freezing temperatures during late-season big-game hunts.
-
Smooth Progressive Feeding: Dimensional consistency prevents jamming in auto-feed primer tubes.
Limitations:
-
Not for Standard Non-Magnum Charges: Using magnum primers in standard non-magnum charges without dropping starting load data can cause unexpected pressure spikes.
-
Specific Pocket Fit: Requires clean large rifle primer pockets seated flush to 0.002–0.006 inches below the case head for proper firing pin strike response.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: What is the difference between CCI #200 and CCI #250 primers?

Q: Can I use CCI 250 primers in .300 Winchester Magnum reloads?
A: Yes, CCI #250 primers are an excellent choice for reloading .300 Win Mag and other large-capacity magnum rifle cartridges.
Q: Are CCI 250 primers non-corrosive?
A: Yes, CCI #250 primers utilize a modern, non-corrosive, and non-mercuric priming formula that protects rifle barrels and action components from corrosive degradation.

Professor Bob From Jackson, NJ –
Back to CCI.. purchased 1000 Remington Magnum large rifle primers for a new Model 70 and thought there was a problem with the rifle! Bought CoreLokts to break in the barrel….Jeez… 4 of 20 would not fire! Called Winchester and tech asked if I was using CoreLokts. He said before I send rifle back, try another brand. I like reloading my own and the CCIs have all fired….over 50 at this point. Remington was very gracious and treated me right. They tested 20 I returned and they all fired. Still scratching my head…. hope this helps others.
